Bane of Indian Society
The Bane of our Indian Society:Quota system.
This morning, I was shocked to read the headlines in the newspaper, it read, “Central Government to move forward with implementing 27% quota for OBC from June 2007”.
The politicians had come up with yet another horrendous scheme to garner the minority vote bank. The worst thing of all, the central government decided to implement the decision in spite of the students all over India condemning it unanimously.
The only aim behind this quota is to garner minority votes. If IIM’s and IIT’s are forced to allocate about 27% of their seats, then they will lose their value and the image of the institutions will be tarnished forever. The next reason is that even if OBC students enter IIT or IIM via quota system, most of them will struggle to pass the exams due to the high quality education system in these prestigious institutions. Even if the students do manage to scrap through, they will always be considered inferior. The only way that can impoverish the poor is by providing them adequate facilities like food , shelter, education, and jobs, not by quotas. You can only teach a person to eat, you cannot spoon-feed him.
I have personally seen a few of my friends who belong to lower castes and still object reservation (I hate the caste system, but am forced to use this word for this blog). They are brilliant in studies and excel in their respective fields, the irony is that my friends have refused scholarships as they lessen their desire to excel and tarnish their self-esteem. I feel proud of my friends (Chaitanya, Masthanaiyyah and Kanniayappan), three cheers to you all!
Implementation of this quota will bring about misery and agony to all, brilliant students will lose their chance to study in IIT and IIM, and this will result in Brain Drain (immigration of talent to other countries). Other students will intentionally target the Students who enter via this quota. The students who enter via quota may find it very hard to adapt them to the high quality syllabus, which might lead to failure in academics. The worst thing is that MNC’s may not recognize IIT or IIM due to quota implementation and so the other talented students might lose precious job opportunities.
It has been more than 25 years since the Mandal commission set up the quota system, but the system had failed miserably and even today 60% of the minorities are lagging behind the poverty line. This clearly indicates the failure of the quota system. The only way to empower minorities is to make them self-reliant and provide adequate facilities like proper school education, food, and shelter. Granting quotas will make them lazy and kill their killer instincts.
I wish that our Prime Minister would stop being a puppet and handle the issue with an iron will by chucking out Arjun singh and his supporters from the cabinet.
The only thing I can do is blog, while those who have power are fiddling with it and talented youngsters suffering for those idiotic decisions I would be happy if quotas were based on Economical and educational backgrounds rather than caste based, if quotas were based on a person’s financial background or his academic performance, we are bound to find many Abdul Kalams, C.V. Ramans, Chandarasekhars, and M.S. Swaminathans.
I know that I can do nothing about this issue, but I wanted to blog this to vent out my frustration like many others, hope you agree.

What you say is true, but old goats like arjun singh wont be sacked by the party because of the same vote bank.
but yeah, i really liked the way all students stood up againt this, inspite of the atrocious behaviousr by the police all around.
like you said, lets see what happens.
HI Visesh, thanks for your comments. It is sad to see that there are millions of bright youngsters who are lagging in the streets and a few idiots like arjun singh sitting in the parliament and passing off idotic and hypocritic bills like this. All we can do is to blog and hold demonstrations which will fall in deaf years.ONly god can save India from the clutches of these B**stards.
Hey,
That reminds me of an old joke...
The rate of Indian politics are heading in such a manner that it would seem like this which ever century we are...
Sending 100 Indians to the moon
65 - ST/SC
20 - MBC
8 - BC
4 - OC
2 - FC
1 - Astronaut, if possible.
Nice Blog you've got here, mate.
Hi Visesh, nice to see you here.

Hi felix, thanks for the support, i just hope that the fate of our country does not resemble your joke. Lets hope that we get a good solution to the quota problem, otherwise we are all doomed.
Hi,
I really don't know where this country in specific is heading. But there is what I know about Men... One way or the other they will keep having trouble, if not Social/Political then Biological, if not that too then Natural.
Not that we are cursed, just that we won't be what we are if everything was clear and we had nothing to worry about.
Just imagine a man who has everything he ever wants. I mean everything... what would he want next? He'd want to play God. Be Immortal. Imagine a bunch of them having no trifles to worry about.
We aren't ever worth eternal peace.

Hmm you are right felix, but here man is playing god, Arjun singh has tried to portray himself as the messiah of the downtrodden. The real people, who are downtrodden never get benefits. Alas , i think that unless the people realise what these chameleons are upto, Downtrodden will remain downtrodden and caste system will remain as it is. I pity the minority people, they are viewed by politicians just as votebanks and not as humans. I just hope that people deliver a fitting verdict with an iron hand and put an end to black goats like ARjun Singh.
