real gift of god

The Real gift of god.

Ganesh had everything a twenty four year old could ask for. He had completed B.E. as he had wished, got a job in his dream company and was working with perhaps the best team in the company. Ganesh was still missing something, he could not realize what it was. On that day he was working in his office, he got a call from vandhana. Ganesh was surprised, because vandhana was his childhood love. He had proposed to her and she had refused his love reasoning his inability to get a job then. But now, the tables had turned and it was Ganesh’s turn to ignore Vandhana only to accept her later as his wife.

Ganesh was born in a middle class family as the elder son. His father was a very humble and well-educated person and his mother was a humble and noble human being. Ganesh faced many struggles during his youth hood as his father had resigned his job and started a business, which bombarded leaving the family in debts. Ganesh’s father wanted him to support his family after completing his P.U.C, but Ganesh was adamant on studying B.E which his family could least afford. It was his mother who had sold her jewels and arranged finance for his studies. His mother was the most affectionate person a child could ask for.

Now, Ganesh had achieved all that he wanted, he also married the girl whom he loved most, their marriage was held without the knowledge of his parents as he feared that they might be a hindrance. Ganesh settled down with his family in the city of Bangalore. Ganesh’s parents were still struggling for financial help, they came to know of their son’s marriage and they were longing to see their daughter in law.

Meanwhile, Vandhana did not want Ganesh to support his parents. She was brought up in a high-class family and hence had little consideration for his parents. Ganesh was in his dream world and showered affection on his in-laws and ignored his parents. Little did Ganesh realize that his ignorance could cost him dearly.

It was that fateful day, Ganesh was sitting in the verandah sipping his cup of tea and reading the newspaper, he was thinking of going to the temple and thank god for all the gifts he had given to him. So, Ganesh took his wife to the temple and then returned back, he got a call and when he picked the phone, he heard a familiar voice. It was his mother; she was longing to see her son. In a very feeble tone she said, “oh Ganesh, how are you, my dear son, why have you not visited us for a long time”. Ganesh could hardly speak, he did not have the courage to speak, the voice at the other end continued, “Beta, your father is not well and we have no money to buy him medicine, could you please send some soon”. This made Ganesh very sad, he was about to answer when Vandhana disconnected the phone with a bang.

Ganesh was angry with Vandhana for her misdeed. Vandhana just said that she didn’t want him to waste time and money on those old persons. She just gave him a dazzling look and hug him so tightly that he forgot his sorrow. A few years passed by, Ganesh constantly ignored his parents, meanwhile Ganesh had quit his job and started his own business. Everything was going so smooth until that fateful day. It was five in the evening when disaster struck, Ganesh got a call from his factory and he was informed that an electrical short circuit had caused a fire that had burnt down the complete factory. This made Ganesh tremble. He was completely bankrupt and from that day all his creditors and his partners started coming in demanding their money. Vandhana was dismayed at her husbands sudden failure and left him to defend the situation all alone.

Ganesh was advised by his friends to hide in some place until they arranged for the money. Ganesh went back to his hometown and there he stopped on the way at a temple and prayed. He opened his eyes and looked at the lord , the eyes of the lord seemed to convey something. Ganesh was deeply moved and he went to the place which he had been avoiding all these years. When, Ganesh entered he saw his father reading a paper and his mother cooking in the kitchen . When his mother saw him, there were tears of joy and a very happy re-union. Ganesh fell down at his fathers and mothers feet and begged for forgiveness. His parents forgave him and blessed him. Ganesh was now happy and his heart suddenly was filled with sasisfaction. Ganesh realized his mistake and he now got back the courage to face his problems. He called up one of his friend and got the news that they had arranged for the money to be given and the whole situation was under control. Ganesh just closed his eyes and thanked god for the real gift he had given, “his parents”.

well, i dont know why parents do this. But my humble opinion is parents are equal to god . We make lot of mistakes knowingly and unknowingly ,but god forgives them once we pray to him truly. Similarly, parents want their children to be happy and sacrifice a lot for their children. Unfortunately ,children mostly forget their parents once they settle in life and think of their parents as burden

Yours comments are mostly true. However , In our daily life, we see Coolies,Road workers,Rickshwallahs toiling hard just to fund their child's education. I myself have seen a rickshawallah, who toiled very hard to make his son study in a convent. His son is now settled , but does not respect his father and thinks of him as garbage. I was disgusted at that guy's behaviour, thats why i wrote the story, but somehow my heart made me change the ending. Maybe, i must stop giving sentimental endings like our cinema directors. Your comments remind me of Chankaya's words" NOBODY IS UNSELFISH, EVERYBODY IN THIS WORLD EXPECTS SOMETHING FROM THE OTHER,EVEN PARENTS EXPECT SOMETHING FROM THEIR KIDS IN RETURN". I just wanna say these words" truth is harsh". It is true that Children should be taught values , but will they follow them?. As they say" You can take the horse to the stable, but you can never make it drink?". Only time will tell.
